FIFA 2010

I am writing at almost the end of World Cup. To sum-up the complete world cup, this time it was not such a great cup for the spectators atleast as the league matches was not close fought. England & France coming out in the league stage was as expected. Their player never had football in their mind ( Cole). But atleast the last stage created the much needed hype for the event, like the favourites always Brasil being knocked out and then my favourite ( only bcoz of Diego) Argentina and in the last 4 Germany being knocked out. As my friend Shambu predicted that this Cup will be won by a country which has never won this event before. Like the Octopus Paul predicted correctly for the last 6 games, my friend predicted in the begining but due to less media attention it never came out of Dark like my friend for so long........... Only good thing about this world cup for me is i met good old friends Narain , Jumpy and Kitty. Waiting for the Finals................ ChEeRs........

Pani Puri

This weekend thanks to Girish(Jampi) for finding out the best Pani Puri most of our friends would have had during their College Days in KGF, no points for guessing it right. Jampi traced Setty's Pani Puri and Masala Puri, guess wat the taste is same as we would have tasted 15 years back. I was shocked when Jampi told the taste was same but realised after tasting. So now i can enjoy the pani puri in Bangalore rather then travelling to Bangarepet. Next time my sisters will be happy about this news who are also the fans of the community called Bangarepet Pani Puri.

SiMpLy CSK

It was the perfect evening for friends to meet Singh, Sodi aka Rajesh and me. In the evening a light drizzle setting up the perfect ambience for a entertaining evening of cricket. We started our innings at sharp 8 PM, me taking on the kitchen for dinner. The menu Rice, Chilly/ Pepper chicken ( I named the dish after cooking just by the looks) chicken curry & the must for Sodi (Curd).Suprising part was Sodi was impressed with my cooking. The match was a perfect example for the saying " Catches Win Matches". There are many people around the world(UK) against me supporting the CSK from the 1 seaonof IPL, they feel i should be in Chennai to support them. But end of the match CSK came as a superior team then MI. I am still wondering why KP came down at end and HS came early, there was Rayudu and Tiwary who are in great form. After the match i made a point to sms one friend to inform CSK won but never got the reply and shocking still now, one more thing was to call Shambu (UK) and tell that CSK won and he is still against me supporting CSK from Bangalore. End of the IPL 3.

BETL

The BETL was meant for the daily commuters between Silk Board and Electronic City, cutting down the travel time by twenty minutes. But now the daily commuters ( Common Man) are also the people who will suffer, for the visits of the so called Elite PM & Presidents of different countries. The cops for the visit of these elite crowd block the entire BETL for over 2 hours for their 8 min drive. Is this was built for the common man or for the so called elite... ???

Sachin Again................

The argument ends here Narain. Sachin is meant for all formats of this game called Cricket. Last proved all those who spoke about his credentials to play this format of the game. 63 runs of just 31 balls with a strike rate of 196.87, so no more arguments. The game of cricket can have only one boss and SACHIN is the boss.

Royal Challenegers are back with a BANG !!!!!!!!!

Royal Challengers Bangalore went after the target with such vengeance that Punjab were punished for trespassing on private property. At the forefront of the chase was the reborn Twenty20 basher Jacques Kallis, who smashed an unbeaten 89, and playing valuable and entertaining supporting roles were Manish Pandey and Robin Uthappa.Kallis' biffing made the crowd delirious as Bangalore neared the target but the early entertainer was Pandey.

Chennai Super Kings Rock............

Captain Cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni led from the front as the Chennai Super Kings rebounded to beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 55 runs for their first win in two matches in the Indian Premier League T20 tournament. The Knights were helpless in their own turf. I was just waiting whether their winning streak will continue and i would see King Khan dancing. King Khan told he will dance only after 5 straight wins, but now King Khan's fan need to wait for a longer time.

Bevu Bella

Tender neem leaves, neem flowers and jaggery are pounded in a pestle and made into tiny balls which are swallowed as the first thing in the morning on the Ugadi day. This is to remind us that life has to be taken easy, though it is a mixture of sweet and bitter experiences. The leaf should be dry, otherwise it will become watery - like mine, and cannot be rolled into balls!!
Neem cools down the system and helps in healing it. It also destroys worms.

Mangai Pachadi
INGREDIENTS:
Raw Mango – 1
Jaggery – 1 cup
Salt – ¼ tsp
Turmeric powder – 1 pinch
Cooking oil – 1 tsp
Mustard seeds – ¼ tsp
Red chillies – 2
Neem flowers ( dried or fresh ) – 1 tsp

METHOD:
1. Peel the mango and dice it into pieces. (Save the peel which can be used in chutneys or in mango rice).
2. Boil one cup of water in a pan and add the mango pieces.
3. Add salt and turmeric powder and cover with a lid.
4. Cook till the mango pieces are tender.
5. Add jaggery and cook till it becomes like jelly.
6. To seasons, heat oil and add mustard seeds.
7. When it splutters add the neem flowers.
8. Add the broken red chillies and add this seasoning to the mangai pachadi.

Savour the pachadi which is sweet , sour, salty, spicy and bitter- all at the same time. It can be relished with rice, dosas and chapattis.

Ugadi/Gudipadava

The New year festival or Ugadi comes close on the heels of Holi. While the strong colors of Holi start fading away, the freshness of spring lingers on with sprightliness all around. The flame of the forest (trees with bright red flowers that blossom during holi) are in full bloom signifying an affluent season. It is believed that the creator of the Hindu pantheon Lord Brahma started creation on this day - Chaitra suddha padhyami or the Ugadi day. Also the great Indian Mathematician Bhaskaracharya's calculations proclaimed the Ugadi day from the sunrise on as the beginning of the new year, new month and new day. The onset of spring also marks a beginning of new life with plants (barren until now) acquiring new life, shoots and leaves. Spring is considered the first season of the year hence also heralding a new year and a new beginning. The vibrancy of life and verdent fields, meadows full of colorful blossoms signifies growth, prosperity and well-being.

With the coming of Ugadi, the naturally perfumed jasmines (mallepulu) spread a sweet fragrance which is perhaps unmatched by any other in nature's own creation! While large garlands of jasmine are offered to Gods in homes and temples, jasmine flowers woven in clusters adorn the braids of women.

Predictions of the Year :
Ugadi marks the beginning of a new Hindu lunar calendar with a change in the moon's orbit. It is a day when mantras are chanted and predictions made for the new year. Traditionally, the panchangasravanam or listening to the yearly calendar was done at the temples or at the Town square but with the onset of modern technology, one can get to hear the priest-scholar on television sets right in one's living room.

It is a season for raw mangoes spreading its aroma in the air and the fully blossomed neem tree that makes the air healthy. Also, jaggery made with fresh crop of sugarcane adds a renewed flavor to the typical dishes associated with Ugadi. "Ugadi pachchadi" is one such dish that has become synonymous with Ugadi. It is made of new jaggery, raw mango pieces and neem flowers and new tanarind which truly reflect life - a combination of sweet, sour and bitter tastes!

Preparing for the Occasion :
Preparations for the festival begin a week ahead. Houses are given a thorough wash. Shopping for new clothes and buying other items that go with the requirements of the festival are done with a lot of excitement.

Ugadi is celebrated with festive fervor in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. While it is called Ugadi in A.P. and Karnataka, in Maharashtra it is known as "Gudipadava". On Ugadi day, people wake up before the break of dawn and take a head bath after which they decorate the entrance of their houses with fresh mango leaves. The significance of tying mango leaves relates to a legend. It is said that Kartik (or Subramanya or Kumara Swamy) and Ganesha, the two sons of Lord Siva and Parvathi were very fond of mangoes. As the legend goes Kartik exhorted people to tie green mango leaves to the doorway signifying a good crop and general well-being.

It is noteworthy that we use mango leaves and coconuts (as in a Kalasam, to initiate any pooja) only on auspicious occasions to propitiate gods. People also splash fresh cow dung water on the ground in front of their house and draw colorful floral designs. This is a common sight in every household. People perform the ritualistic worship to God invoking his blessings before they start off with the new year. They pray for their health, wealth and prosperity and success in business too. Ugadi is also the most auspicious time to start new ventures.

The celebration of Ugadi is marked by religious zeal and social merriment. Special dishes are prepared for the occasion. In Andhra Pradesh, eatables such as "pulihora", "bobbatlu" and preparations made with raw mango go well with the occasion. In Karnataka too, similar preparations are made but called "puliogure" and "holige". The Maharashtrians make "puran poli" or sweet rotis.

Season For Pickles :
With the raw mango available in abundance only during the two months (of April/May), people in Andhra Pradesh make good use of mangoes to last them until the next season. They pickle the mangoes with salt, powdered mustard and powdered dry red chilli and a lot of oil to float over the mangoes. This preparation is called "avakai" and lasts for a whole year.

Mangoes and summer season go hand in hand. Ugadi thus marks the beginning of the hot season which coincides with the school vacations. For the young ones, therefore, Ugadi is characterised by new clothes, sumptuous food and revelling. The air is filled with joy, enthusiasm and gaiety. Some people participate in social community gatherings and enjoy a tranquil evening with devotional songs (bhajans).

IPL Days

IPL days just bring in sweet memories of IPL season 1. Each day was a new beginning for an argument. The room would be filled with smoke and the visitors aka Shambu & Narain. There was an argument over whether Sachin should continue playing in this format r not but now i think there can never be an argument coz the master had silenced the critic aka Narain. The expert comments from sharath was a ice-breaker for the serious argument. The match was never missed by the visitors even if the host were fast asleep r sometime not present at home. The visitors usually come with 5 smoke and end up smoking double the number(including the host stock). New IPL season started but the old pals are missing from the scene. Now each one sitting in different corners of the world, some are out of civilization like dont have access to Television, internet and basic of basic needs CELL PHONE.

Hope to meet u guys for the next season .................................

Will the Knight Conquer ??

They have started in a promising note, but we need to keep our fingers crossed as they started on more promising note in the first season with brilliant 158 from Brendon McCullum which is the highest individual score in this format of the game till date. But this season the young guns r knights have shown some caliber in the middle order. I think KKR are the under dogs for this season. They showed that in the first match beating the last year champions Deccan Chargers.

IPL is back again.......

India Hockey ????????????

These are the signs of frustrated Indian Hockey Team. Is there any signs of this team bringing us the World Cup in near future or the Olympic Gold. The issues of our National sport could have been handled in a better way rather then begging or starving for support ( money ). People now play the sport only for money rather then the passion for the sports. If this continues the future Gen-x will not be aware of our National Sports.

Returns of Michael Schumacher !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The return of Michael Schumacher, after three years away and at the age of 41, was always going to take top billing in a blockbuster of a Formula One season.

The big question, with the championship kicking off in Bahrain next week, is whether the German can roll back the years and deliver what is expected of him in a new era and against one of the most competitive fields in ages.

The box office needs the most successful driver of all time to be back with a bang, fighting wheel-to-wheel to increase his record tally of 91 race wins and challenging for an unprecedented eighth title.

Failure with his new Mercedes team could otherwise damage the glittering, and at times controversial, legacy that Schumacher had established over the 16 years before he retired from Ferrari in 2006.
